Xuzhou Medical College (XZMC) is situated in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, a famous historic and cultural city and an excellent tourist city. Since her foundation in 1958, XZMC has developed into an institution of higher learning of medical sciences with a long history and distinct specialties in disciplines. For nearly fifty years, XZMC has fostered specialized personnel of more than ten thousand graduates including postgraduates. The total area of XZMC is 830,000 square meters. Current enrollment amounts to 10,000 students. XZMC has a total 2,000 staff, including 125 professors and chief physicians, 345 associate professors and associates chief physicians. At present, XZMC comprises 11 departments and faculties: Basic Medical Sciences Department 24 disciplines of XZMC are authorized to grant master degrees; the Disciplines of Anesthesiology, Bio-chemistry and Molecular Biology provides cooperated Doctoral programs with China Medical University, Shanghai Pharmaceutics Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. |

XZMC has 4 research institutes, 6 research centers, 2 key provincial laboratories, 4 key provincial disciplines and 19 research offices. Furthermore, XZMC is the director of Anesthesiology Education Subcommittee of National Medical Education Committee and has been granted “Test Paper Base of Anesthesiology Specialty for Medical Professional Academic Titles” by the Ministry of Heath, P.R.C. At present, XZMC has 6 affiliated hospitals, 56 teaching hospitals for clinical practicum, of which Affiliated Hospital of XZMC has a history of 105 years and was nominated “Tertiary Hospital of Grade A” by China Ministry of Health. XZMC has already been listed the first fifty advanced medical institutes of China for three years. In 2005, XZMC ranks the fortieth of 178 medical institutes in China. XZMC lays great emphasis on international academic exchange and cooperation and has multi-lateral exchange and cooperation agreements with many institutes inside and outside China Such as Medical College of Harvard University, The State University of New York Health Science Center, Parker Medical College of Texas, General Hospital of Massachusetts & Medical College of Wisconsin University USA, China Academy of Science and Medical University of Vienna, Austria |
